Ballet in College?
I have been doing ballet off and on my whole life. Ballet is my passion and I dance en pointe. I am fairly good, but I don’t do it to be the absolute best. I do it because I love it. As much as I love it, I am not interested in going into a professional company. When I go to college (in 2 years) I would love to dance for the college, but can you dance in college without pursuing a degree in ballet? People have told me that it depends on the college and I know this, but in general do they require you to major in ballet to dance with them? I want ballet to be a part of my life for as long as possible!

The classes will be in order to either major or minor in and ask them if you want to attend and ask them if you will probably be cheaper toogood luck.

You’re asking “in general,” and I can tell you that, in general, there are few colleges – period – that have performing ensembles in ballet. Of the ones that perform ballet, the chances are actually quite high that you’d need to be a major. You see, while many college dance programs OFFER ballet classes along with modern (and possibly a smattering of other styles), most college performances are all modern. The colleges that offer performance opportunities in ballet tend to be the most elite dance programs in the country.
There are many other ballet students like you who would like to continue performing while in college while pursuing another major. What most of them do is to select a college with an eye on which ones have a civic/regional ballet company in the local area. Civic ballet companies are the ideal way for you to continue performing for as long as you’d like.
