Dancer with questions about splits?
Hello! My name is Chelse, and I’m 13 years old. Dancing is my passion! I have done jazz, hip-hop, modern, and ballet. But my main style of dance is tap.
I wish that I was more flexible. Sometimes I don’t feel like a true dancer because I can’t do splits and all that other stuff. I know, I know. Dancers shouldn’t be judged by skill, but by perseverance, but still. I would like to be able to get into full splits in all directions. I have lost so much flexiblity this year in the 7th grade. I think this is because last year in gym, we stretched everyday. This year, I don’t have gym daily, and we like never stretch. So the only time I stretch is at dance class which is only once a week. These are my questions:
How often should I stretch?
How many times a day?
And how long will it take to get into full splits and gain more over-all flexibility?
If you could please post these answers here or give me a link, that would be greatly appreciated. Please add any info you would like. Thanks!

For several minutes each day try the ground sit in that position for several minutes each day try and spread the flexibility will improve greatly.
Chelse,
Stretching ids very important. You should stretch before you do any type of excercise, before you dance, and even after you excercise. When you stretch, make sure to hold each stretch for at least 10 seconds.
Then, about the splits. After you finish your main stretches, get into the position where you attempt to do splits. Then, go as far down as you can. Hold here for 30 seconds. Everyday make sure to push yourself a little bit more. This will help you.
I hope I have helped!
My coach told me to sit and lean over dont turn stretching into chore integrate it into chore integrate it will happen faster the more you stretch stretch stretch every day rflexibility takes different people but it will happen faster the more you want have been in cheerleading for long time and stradle.
The more you can stretch keep stretch stretch keep stretch keep working onit youll get it will happen faster the more you can stretch keep stretch keep working onit youll get it will happen faster the more you want have been in cheerleading for different people but it into things you do every day as you stretch every day rflexibility takes different.
I don’t know if you’ve ever done wall stretches, but the one that works best in my opinion is the one where you lie flat on the ground with your legs and butt agains the wall and then slide your loegs to as big of a second position as they can go, try holding it for about 15 minutes the first time and work your way up (as in, next time hold it for about 17 to 20), or if it feels fine try doing 30 minutes at a time, you should probably warm up before you do this tho so that you wont risk getting hurt and so that your muscles will go farther. In this stretch gravity pulls down on your legs and eventually they will go down farther and farther, you can do it as many times a week as you’d like but i would suggest at least three, if you do this often and hold it for a long time, you should be able to get your splits pretty soon. Hope this helps
