Does anyone else realize that “waltzing Matilda” is about a man who killed himself to avoid consequences?
“You’ll never take me alive said he/and his ghost may be heard…..” he did the wrong thing, got in trouble, and couldn’t hack it. what a coward. do you really feel proud to sing that??

That’s just plain creepy!!
and cool at the same time!!
Wow!!
Imagine if another country was singing about people killing themselves!!
I wouldn’t really be proud singing that if I knew the meaning but they probably don’t!!
I glad I don’t live there!!
Yes – I knew that … The lyrics to the song were written in 1895 by the poet and nationalist Banjo Paterson, who originally set them to a slightly different tune. Extensive folklore surrounds the song and the process of its creation, to the extent that the song has its own museum, the Waltzing Matilda Centre of Winton, Queensland.
Its lyrics, relate to the story of a swagman who steals a sheep and drowns himself when law enforcement arrives.
Many Australians, however, continue to regard it with great favour and sentimentality. Some have suggested using the same tune but with different lyrics, but supporters argue the lyrics contribute substantially to the song’s character.
