I want to be a dancer???
I’m 16 and live near ottawa, canada. I’ve always wanted to be a dancer and I know I have it in me. I’m graduating a year early just so I can try to be a proffesional dancer. The problem is, my parents don’t support me and since i live in a small town, my dancer teacher sucks and doesnt give me very good choreography. I really want this and i’d like any advice yu can give me. I’m also an actress and I can sing (so people tell me). I’d love to be a back up dancer too; its my dream to show my stuff in a music video because when i was younger everyone teased me and I want to show them that they misjudged me and they missed out on a great person. Please help me!!!????

dance like no ones watchin ♥
just go out and show em what you got! you may have to drive a little ways to get to a decent dance studio, but it’s worth it, i promise! dancing is a great thing, and it’s sad how many people miss out on it. it’s a great way to excercise and have fun
you should do whatever it takes to persue your dream!
hello young one! this sounds cliche, but it is fundamentally true: FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS! if you work hard and strive to achieve, someday — someday, you will get there. don’t let what others say discourage you from the path you want to take. because when it all comes down to it, no one lives your life but YOU – and you have to be satisfied and proud of that life and what you achieved, how you struggled to get what you want… etc.
now, i don’t know if you get this show in canada, but “so you think you can dance” gives you a good idea of you have got what it takes to make it in the world of professional dancing.
i’m sure there are dancers out there who can speak to this better – but dancing is a tough and competitive industry. one tiny injury can have huge consequences…
however, from the standpoint of encouragement – i truly do encourage you to fight to achieve your goals. surround yourself with better dancers in order to learn. work hard and stay focused (these are good principles for life in general!).
good luck to you in whatever you do with your life!
try broadway its all around event. u can act sing and dance
Back in high school, my parents disapproved of me getting involve in performing arts too. They thought nothing good would come out of it.
It was difficult, really. But I did talk to them and told them that that is what I wanted. I would go to rehearsals (I was a member and then an officer of the school Dance Club) sometimes telling them that I was going to a school project. Not really ideal and I don’t suggest you should too! But I felt that was the only way I can pursue my goals.
It wasn’t until people started talking about my performances (they gave me good feedback, thank goodness!) that they loosened up a bit.
It was only during college they saw me on stage. The university had a big production and I was the lead (like you, I can act and sing – somehow! – too). My father thought it was just a classroom play but it was actually done on the university theatre hall. I think that about did it because they saw how much I love performing and how much people supported me all throughout.
I say, in your case, just GO FOR YOUR DREAMS! And credit your current teacher for still teaching you. Not many people have the patience and right attitude to become dance instructors. For all you know, your teacher would be the most valuable person in your career.
Talk to your parents constantly. Assure them that aside from being a professional dancer, you’ll have back up plans so you can be stable in the future. I finished a degree in Communication Arts and will be continuing my studies here in the US. Dancing is still a part of my life (and so is singing and acting) even though I’m not a professional.
Also, brush up on your contacts. Maybe your teacher knows a few production companies. Then just get out there and have fun!
The important thing is, you know why you’re doing it. Don’t do it just because you want to prove to everyone else that they missed out on a great person — do it because you love it.
Things will fall into place afterwards. Just believe! =)
who cares if your parents dont support you! FOLLOW YOUR HEART! dance your body out and like no one is watching! maybe take dance lessons to get prepaired and all, audition for music videos if youre that interested! maybe if your school has a dance team you should go for it and have fun! It only takes one person to make a dream come true-and that HAS to be you!!!
goodluck!
People used to make fun of me too, but I worked real hard to show them that I had talent. That’s exactly what you shoiuld do. I know it sounds cliche, but parctice makes perfect, that’s the only way you can improve on your craft. I if you really know you’ve got talent, remember that when you’re performing. I’m a dancer too. Also I don’t think that music videos is the right thing for you since you have talent, because now all they have is girls in booty shorts shaking their hips.
Good Luck
remember, work hard and never give up
