In 1995 Michael released History – Past, Present and Future, Book I, a 2 disc set featuring one disc of greatest hits and the 2nd comprising new material. The album was received with mixed feelings as many of his fans were attempting to find an exclusive greatest hits set. In 2003 Sony hit the market with Number Ones.
This album offers 15 hit singles. 14 of them were Billboard Hot a hundred Top ten hits.
Three songs are from Off the Wall, five from Thriller, four from Bad and 3 from Dangerous.
Number Ones also included singles from the second disc of History, plus the title track from Blood on the Dance Floor and “You Rock My World”, the hit single from Invincible.
Two bonus tracks were also included – “Break of Dawn” and “One More Chance”, Michael Jackson’s last hit single.
In November 2005, Number Ones was authorized Platinum ! According to Nielsen Soundscan the album sold an extra 227,000 copies through to April 2007. The album has sold more than 6,000,000 copies worldwide.
In June 26 , 2009 , the King of Pop, Michael Jackson passed away. On June 29 it has been reported that there was an 80-fold increase in requirement the Michael’s Number Ones album and it has shot from 121 to number one in the UK.
Number Ones sold 108,000 units in the chart week ending July first 2009.
The week after, the album sold a rough figure 330,000 copies. The album wasn’t permitted to chart on the Billboard 200, but entered the Comprehensive chart at Number 1.
