The capital of the Dominican Republic is Santo Domingo. Spanish was the first establishment in the Americas. Christopher Columbus initiated the first new European world here in 1496. His legacy is preserved in the bricks and mortar of the historic old section of Santo Domingo, which has turned into an entertaining and interesting Colonial theme. The south coast contains some of the largest cities in the country and national parks. If any city in the world could be declared destination perfect holiday, then Santo Domingo would probably be a candidate first, with its modern sophistication, old world charm and Latin charisma, not to mention his position on the Caribbean coast destruction of tropical southern Dominican Republic.The only the landscape is the crime rate of theft, muggings and theft is common so small that you keep your belongings with care. The building is the 693ft long and built in the shape of a cross at a 45degree angle. Which contains the remains of Columbus and was very fit the demands of the Dominican Republic with intense lights which project the image of the cross in the sky at night. The monument was designed by English architect JL Gleave, who won an international competition to design 455 after the plans were submitted by architects from 48 different countries. The building is also the repository for many documents and artifacts associated with the early Spanish colonial times. The vast green square in the heart of the Santo Domingo city as cultural and artistic showcase, being confronted by a cluster of four museums, as well as the National Theater. The museums are the Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of history and geography, natural history museum and the Museum of Dominican Man. The national theater works with a full schedule of productions of opera, ballet, music and drama.
