Tryouts for “Bye Bye Birdie.”?

I’m trying out for the musical my university is doing in the fall, “Bye Bye Birdie,” and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a song. The directors said any musical number was fine, but I’m going for the part of Rose.

Any suggestions?
Oh yeah. This might be useful info.

The role is Mezzo-Soprano, and that is my tessitura as well.

I’ve always had this eccentric/silly/showy part of my brain. One of my fantasies is being at the head of the Conga line on New Years Eve. I’m the one that would say, “Look everyone! I’ve got a lampshade on my head!!!” Does this make me Gay?

Bye Bye Birdie auditions – song for Kim (details inside)?

They are a community of listening to the theatre for "Bye Bye Birdie" in a couple of weeks. This is a new theatre for me, so I want to blow away. SO, I am looking for advice on a song First of all, I like the role of Kim, but I am concerned I look more like a Ursula (worried because I am more a singer or an actor). I am 17, 5'3, brown hair, brown eyes, 175 pounds. Some advice if I can Kim would be appreciated. Oralmente, I am a soprano. I have a great big operatic voice, but you can get off to a "sweet" if given the right tone song. However, to get that sweet tone, I would prefer a lower interval (A3 – E5), even if my operatic range is much bigger (F3 – F6). So, I am looking for a song that will be specifically in my work range bottom so I can produce the sweet sound that is necessary to Kim. However, I said that she is a soprano so I needed to do what I have to do. So there you go. You have way more information. What should sing songs?
